Hospice Operations

    Hospice Software Evaluation Checklist

Written for: Hospice administrators and clinical directors evaluating software.

Hospice documentation has its own rhythm — IDG meetings, eligibility evidence, bereavement follow-up. Use this checklist to evaluate whether a system was built for hospice or merely adapted to it.

    Core hospice workflow

    • Admission and eligibility: can clinicians document eligibility evidence that holds up under review?
    • IDG/IDT meetings: does the system support the interdisciplinary meeting workflow, not just store notes?
    • Orders and visits: are physician orders and visit documentation captured at the bedside?
    • Bereavement: can you plan and document bereavement follow-up for families?
    • QAPI: are there structured review queues that keep charts survey-ready?

    Billing and compliance

    • Hospice-specific claims and reporting, not a home health billing module with hospice labels.
    • Certification and accreditation support — ask which accreditations the product holds and what that covers.
    • Audit trail on every chart, organized the way surveyors request records.

    Questions for every vendor

    • Show me an IDG meeting run in the system, start to finish.
    • How does eligibility documentation appear during a medical review?
    • What hospice-specific reports ship out of the box?
    • Which features are available today versus on the roadmap?
